I used washing soda (baked baking soda), next time I will try food grade lye and see what the color difference is between the baking soda, washing soda and lye.

    Just wanted to make sure I’m understanding that you’re not trying to make bagels with lye.

    4% solution of lye. 40 grams of lye in plastic container, top up to 1000 grams of filtered or distilled water.
